Primary Care Follow-up of Thyroid Cancer After Initial Treatment

The follow-up of papillary or follicular thyroid cancer can be transferred to primary health care 5 years after initial treatment, if the patient is considered to be disease free. The follow-up includes measurements of serum TSH, free T4 and thyroglobulin (Tg) concentrations as well as neck ultrasonography (US) to assess the structure of the thyroid gland. Some country-specific variation can be expected in the follow-up guidelines.
